Car accidents are NEVER easy. Follow these helpful tips to prepare you on what to do next.
1. Check for injuries:
After an accident check both yourself and any passengers for injuries. If an injury is serious call 911 immediately.
2. Remain calm and do not admit fault:
Try to keep your cool as best as you can. Accidents are scary so this is easier said than done. You want to try to keep your mind clear in case there are any details about the accident you will need to recall. Whether or not the accident was your fault, do not discuss it with the other party involved.
3. Get out of the way:
If you are able, move any cars involved away from traffic and to a place of safety. If you are unable to move the vehicles, move yourself and all others involved away from the dangers of oncoming traffic. However, if you or any of the passengers are seriously injured, leave it to the professionals to take care of. You do not want to cause more harm to the injured individual.
4. Contact the police:
Call the police and give them details of the accident. Once they are on-site tell them exactly what happened so they can file an accident report. DO NOT leave the sight of the accident. Stay put until you are told otherwise by and officer.
5. Snap photos of the damage:
To protect yourself from being the victim of a fraudulent claim, take pictures of any/all damage from the vehicles involved. Also, do not forget to snap a photo of the license plate(s)!
6. Obtain information from all parties:
You want to get as much information as possible such as: name, address, phone number, drivers license number, license plate number and state, VIN number, insurance company and policy number.
7. Get in touch with your insurance company ASAP:
